Monero OTC Trading (2026)

Buy and sell large amounts of XMR without exchanges
TL;DR: OTC (over-the-counter) trading lets you buy or sell Monero directly with another person — no exchange, no KYC, no order book. Use Haveno's 2-of-3 multisig escrow for security. Typical premium: 5-15% over market. Best for amounts from €500 to €50,000+. For EUR/XMR OTC trades, contact arnoldnakamura — 683 trades, 100% feedback.

Why Trade OTC?

Centralized exchanges require identity verification (KYC), impose withdrawal limits, and report to tax authorities. After mass delistings in 2024-2025, fewer exchanges even list Monero. OTC trading solves all of this:

OTC Methods

Face-to-Face

FAST PRIVATE

Meet in person, exchange cash for XMR on the spot. Public locations only. Best for large amounts in your region.

Crypto-to-Crypto Swap

FAST

Swap BTC, ETH, or USDT for XMR via atomic swaps or instant swap services (Trocador, Majestic Bank). 3-8% premium.

Bank Transfer + Escrow

SAFE

SEPA transfer to trader's account, XMR released from escrow. Faster than mail, but creates a bank record. 8-12% premium.

How OTC Escrow Works

The biggest risk in OTC trading is one party not delivering. Haveno solves this with 2-of-3 multisig escrow:

1

Both parties deposit

Seller deposits XMR + security deposit. Buyer deposits security deposit. Funds lock in 2-of-3 multisig (buyer + seller + arbitrator hold keys).

2

Buyer sends payment

Buyer sends EUR (cash by mail, bank transfer, or in person) and marks payment as sent.

3

Seller confirms receipt

Seller confirms EUR received. Both keys sign the release transaction. Buyer gets XMR, seller gets EUR + deposit back.

4

Dispute? Arbitrator decides

If either party disputes, the arbitrator reviews evidence and signs with the honest party's key. Cheater loses their security deposit.

Escrow platforms: RetoSwap (15% deposits, 0.6% fees, proven) and DawnSwap (5% deposits, ~2% fees, faster arbitration). Both use the same Haveno protocol.

OTC Pricing

OTC premiums exist because traders provide liquidity, accept counterparty risk, and operate without exchange infrastructure. Here's what to expect:

Payment MethodTypical PremiumSpeedPrivacy
Cash by Mail8-15%3-7 daysMaximum
Face-to-Face Cash8-12%Same dayMaximum
Bank Transfer (SEPA)6-12%1-2 daysBank record
Crypto Swap (BTC/ETH)3-8%10-60 minHigh
USDT → XMR3-6%5-30 minUSDT is transparent

Premium decreases with volume for repeat clients. A €10,000 trade often gets a better rate than €500. Negotiation is standard — ask.

Finding Trusted OTC Traders

Reputation is everything in OTC. Look for:

Red flags: Refusing escrow, asking you to send first, prices far below market (if it's too good to be true, it is), freshly created accounts, pressure to rush the trade, requesting personal information.
